Placement in the Grid as in the Game
Item Old Boots.png Item Spiked Boots.png Item Thermal Boots.png Item Leafy Boots.png Item Winged Boots.png
Item The Stepladder.png Item The Shovel.png Item The Axe.png Item The Hammer.png Item The Candle.png
Item Copper Key.png Item Steel Key.png Item Gold Key.png Item Coral Key.png Item Panties.png
Item Red Scroll.png Item Blue Scroll.png Item Speckled Egg.png Item Dino Fossil.png Item Holy Water.png
Item Cat Food.png Item Bacon.png Item Chocolate Cornet.png Item Battery.png Item Blood Orb.png
Image Name Description Note
Item Old Boots.png Old Boots Allows the party to go outside. Although they are in the player's inventory from the beginning of the game (and another pair can be picked in the dark cave of Battle Mountain), they have no actual effect. However, one pair is needed to begin a chain of quests (from Jan) in Goldenbrick Resort that will end with the player receiving the Blue Scroll.
Item Spiked Boots.png Spiked Boots These were going to do something at one point, but now they do nothing. Obtained as a quest reward by talking to Clegg in Goldenbrick Resort with The Shovel. Their only use is to complete a quest for Saito in the same area, receiving the Blue Scroll.
Item Thermal Boots.png Thermal Boots Allows the party to walk on magma. It still hurts though. Obtained from a chest in the Lava Cave at Lankyroot Jungle, guarded by the south battle that appears as a Blood Bat.

Damage taken is affected by Fire resistance. Players with over 100% resistance will be healed instead.

The Lava Burns medal is awarded for using Thermal Boots for the first time.

Item Leafy Boots.png Leafy Boots Allows the party to walk on lily pads. Found in a chest on a dock near the southwest edge of Lankyroot Jungle's river, two screens below this area's Slime Cat, guarded by a battle that appears as a Big Muddy Bush.

Item The Stepladder.png The Stepladder Allows the party to fix some gaps in broken bridges. Found in a chest on the right docks of Goldenbrick Resort.

Strangely, The Stepladder remains over the gaps it bridges, yet the party never runs out of new ladders to use. This is likely a small conceit for the player's benefit, to make crossing easier by not forcing them to constantly reuse the Ladder on the same gaps.

The Used... Ladder? medal is awarded for using the item for the first time.

Item The Shovel.png The Shovel This item doesn't actually do anything. But maybe someday...? It is obtained as a quest reward by talking to Jan in Goldenbrick Resort, losing Old Boots. Its only use is to complete a quest for Clegg in the same town, receiving Spiked Boots.

  • Lanky Root (15%)

(Up to all 3 items from one tree.)

The Used Cut medal is awarded for using The Axe for the first time.

Item The Hammer.png The Hammer Allows the party to smash boulders which block paths. Obtained from a chest behind the boss of Waste Disposal Plant, Praetorian. Some items may be obtained from breaking boulders:

  • Amethyst (8%)
  • Emerald (2%)
  • Ruby (2%)

Trivia

  • The Battery in EBF3 technically has a cost specified (2000 gold), and is found next to Microcontroller and RAM Chip in the files, suggesting it was originally intended as a crafting item.
  • The description for the Chocolate Cornet in EBF4 ("Not sure which end you eat first...") refers to the first episode of the Lucky Star anime, which touches on which side of the cornet you are supposed to eat first.

Is this a treasure map? Doesn't look like it shows anywhere on this planet.

  • The Nether Map was a key item in EBF5 before being replaced with the Red Envelope from version 1.5. It was found in the Cosmic Monolith room in the Iron Fortress.
  • The Music CD in EBF5 is labelled with "HFX", possibly in reference to Phyrnna, who was also known as HalcyonicFalconX.
