When you submit a tip through Crime Stoppers, you are always 100% ANONYMOUS! You can submit your tips by calling us or online. It is also important for you to know that there are laws in Michigan protecting Crime Stoppers tipsters from being forced to testify in court!
HOW IT WORKS
When you call or submit an online tip, be sure to give every detail you know or remember. You will never need to testify.

When you call 1 800 SPEAK UP, you will be speaking to an operator from our call center located in Texas. A trained operator who services Crime Stoppers organizations across the country will take your information and put it into a tip format. There is No Caller Id, and your phone call is never recorded.
SUBMIT A TIP ONLINE HERE
When you go to submit a tip online, you will be redirected to our online encrypted submission form. You will then have to complete the form that aims to collect the most relevant information to help law enforcement to solve the case. To follow-up your tip, call us back to see if your tip leads to an arrest.
Regardless if you submit a tip by calling 1 800 SPEAK UP or online, you will receive a "Tip Reference Number". This number will be needed to follow up on your tip. DO NOT give your tip number to anyone else as it is the only way you can track the progress of your information.
Once a tip has been received it will be sent to the law enforcement agency that has jurisdiction over the reported crime. The agency will investigate the tip and report back the outcome of the investigation to our administrative office in Southfield, Michigan.
You can follow up on your tip by calling our administrative office on specified days. The phone number to call when following up on a tip is 313-922-5000. The hours to call our main office for follow-ups are: Tuesday and Thursday 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. and Wednesday from 1 p.m. – 5 p.m.
If your tip leads to an arrest, you will be eligible for a reward of up to $2,500. Rewards are processed once a month. If you are eligible for a reward, we have partnered with local banks that will disburse the reward in cash. No identification is needed, and you will only need your tip reference number and the amount of the reward to get paid.
CASH REWARDS
Once a month, the reward court, which is an independent group made up of business, banking, and law enforcement representatives, will review each tip as well as the law enforcement agencies feedback to determine if a tip should be rewarded. Their decision is based on a point system that has been established as a guide to ensure fair and uniform reward amounts.
Rewards range from $100 – $2500.
- Homicides/Missing Persons and Hit & Run fatalities are eligible for UP TO $2,500.
- All other crimes are UP TO $1,000.
The reward never expires until it is picked up.
*Some rewards can be higher than $2,500, they are called Joint Rewards. They are funds added by individuals, business members or community groups to the Crime Stoppers' reward.
INMATE TIPS
Inmates can make a call from all prisons in Michigan by following these steps.
- Dial 0 for a collect call

- Enter 767# when prompted for the phone number
To follow-up call from prison, the inmate has to follow these steps.
- Dial 0 for a collect call

- Tell the operator you are checking on a tip that you already called in, and when they tell you to call 1-313…. Say "I cannot make the call." They will transfer you through to the Crime Stoppers administrative office to get a follow-up.
Give your tip number to a trusted family member or friend and tell them to follow up by calling the Crime Stoppers administrative office at 313-922-5000 and they can collect the cash for you.
Or if your tip leads to an arrest, the reward never expires, so you can hold onto that tip number and upon release from prison and collect the cash reward.
